I’m interested in better understanding the concepts of irritability, anger, and aggression. I want to better highlight the similarities and differences in their causes, experiences, and consequences across cultures and contexts.

    Luz Maria Anaya

I am interested in the pathologization of anger as expressed or manifested within BIPOC communities, particularly among Latine populations. I want to understand how anger can be used as a measurement to oppress or oversimplify the experiences of those who are historically marginalized. How can our understanding of anger be used as a tool of liberation rather than oppression? That is what I am hoping to discover and learn through my work in ARG.

      Shaun Cox

I am drawn to ARG to explore how anger, irritability, and aggression develop in children and adolescents from military families affected by trauma. I focus on how these patterns persist into adulthood and shape emotional and behavioral regulation, often affecting relationships, coping strategies, and overall functioning. I aim to work directly with individuals and families, applying this research to promote resilience, healthier relationships, and lasting well-being. By understanding these emotional patterns, I hope to inform interventions that support both immediate and long-term growth for trauma-exposed populations.

        Amanda Henkel

I am interested in the manifestations of anger, aggression, and irritability across cultures, particularly among marginalized populations and individuals who have experienced trauma. Additionally, I aim to explore how others’ perceptions of anger and aggression affect treatment accessibility and effectiveness in clinical and forensic settings.

          Sandra M Larson, MA

I am interested in exploring anger, irritability, and aggression, and how they are shaped by the body, environment, and culture. My work examines how environmental sound and silence, health, and art reveal the deep connections between emotion, humanity, and our surroundings.

            Olivia Loos

I am interested in irritability stemming from sleep disorders, specifically looking at medical residents and the impact on their performance.

              Molly Mullen

I am interested in studying the roles of anger, aggression, and irritability in the many different pools of research, such as the lives of mothers raising children with Autism spectrum disorders (ASD), veterans living through daily life, and students in higher education working through relationships with professors and high expectations. I hope to utilize my research to further contribute to the field of psychology and shed light on these topics.

                Mariah Shipley

I am interested in how anger manifests regarding LGBTQIA+ issues. I’m curious to explore perceived causes of anger and hostility towards transgender individuals by their non-affirming families. Hopefully, by understanding the perceived causes of anger we can improve interventions to create a more affirming familial structure. Understanding the perceived cause of the hostility is the first step in addressing it and hopefully creating a positive change.

                    Elizabeth Chacon

I am interested in learning and understanding how anger, aggression, and irritability impact children and adolescents who are from underserved communities and/or have experienced trauma as well as how that translates into adulthood.

                      Mimi Crewdson, MA (she/her)

I am interested in understanding how traditional Southern cultural values influence women’s regulation and expression of anger, and how this suppression impacts emotional health and identity.

                        Ben Holroyd

I am interested in anger and irritability within patients undergoing physical therapy rehabilitation, as well as other physical health treatment modalities. Understanding how these emotions contribute to an often frustrating recovery process could have major implications for the psychological care of this patient population and our societal understanding of the physical healing process.

                          Mian Laurain, MA (she/her)

I am interested in exploring anger, aggression, and irritability in adolescent and young-adult populations. As a primary human emotion, anger can serve as a functional, adaptive response to a problem. For many, however, anger is largely a maladaptive response that does not help them get any closer to their goals. I would like to have a deeper understanding of the spectrum of adaptive to maladaptive anger, aggression, and irritability.

                            Elysia Ouyang

I am interested in how the constructs of anger and irritability are experienced by teachers, particularly early childhood educators.  I am curious how experiences of anger and irritability are managed in the classroom, if they might differ between educators new to the field and those who are more experienced, and whether these experiences affect educators’ job satisfaction and likelihood of staying in this career.

                              Lexi Spencer

I am interested in exploring anger, irritability, and aggression differences in cultural groups. In particular, I aim to define passive aggression and understand cultural and gender differences in expressing passive aggression. Once I have looked into the basis of passive aggression, I would like to delve into how trauma experiences affect presentation.

                                Emily Collins

I am interested in understanding irritability and anger within the context of the physical home environment, particularly related to clutter, sensory overwhelm, and mental load. My interests lie in how the accumulation of possessions and disorganization contribute to emotional dysregulation and irritability within daily life, especially in populations experiencing increased mental and emotional load.

                                  Alice Curtis

I am interested in how shame and anger manifests in individuals marginalized by their communities. My main populations of interest are adults who were in the foster care system and women raised in institutional religion who have since left. I am intrigued by the role marginalization plays into anger and shame manifestation, as well as the relationship between shame and anger.

                                    Clare Harnsberger

I am interested in the manifestations of anger and irritability in parents and caregivers as a response to their children’s behaviors. My aim is to understand the complex associated emotions that go hand in hand with these anger/irritability responses as well as to normalize these experiences. I am also interested in the precipitating factors that lead to and heighten parent and caregivers anger and irritability in these situations so as to support parents and caregivers in intercepting and redirecting these responses to improve parent-child relations.

                                      Angelica Jaegle (she/her/hers)

I am interested in ARG as I am passionate to find a connection between irritability, anger, and aggression and the impact on eating disorders behavior. I am further interested in the connection between anger and internalized Christianity in women’s behaviors. I plan to work in health psychology so these concepts of irritability, anger, and aggression are critical in understanding cultural impacts of diagnosis.

                                        Olivia Liu

I am interested in anger, aggression, and irritability in kids. I’m especially interested in rigid children and how these constructs intersect with their rigidity. Furthermore, I want to understand how parents view their kids’ AAI and rigidity, and what they perceive as aggravating or soothing their children.

                                          Rachel Runge (she/her)

I am passionate about examining the neurobiological and environmental factors influencing anger, irritability, and emotional regulation within neurodivergent populations. I am interested in how unique neural pathways, overstimulation, societal pressures, and internalized ableism shape emotional experiences for neurodivergent individuals. By investigating these intersections, I aim to deepen our understanding of anger, irritability, and emotional dysregulation in neurodivergent contexts and contribute insights that foster more neurodiverse-affirming environments. Ultimately, I want my work to contribute to the development of tailored interventions, accommodations, and therapeutic approaches that respect and enhance the lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals.

                                            Kail Thompson

I am curious about the positive and negative consequences of anger. I hope to explore how anger can inspire growth and strengthen community bonds, as well as how it can lead to harmful inactions or actions, such as irritability and aggression. As I engage in research and learn from other members of ARG, I aim to deepen my understanding of anger, irritability, and aggression from a culturally diverse and social justice perspective.
