Sunday Scaries?

October is the month of all things spooky, but as I’ve learned over the last half a century (now THAT’S scary!) it’s that “spooky is entirely in the eye of the one being spooked. Be it clowns, dolls, ghosts, or third period, we all have something that scares us. This month, I’m sharing a few things that might help you get through those not-so-fun scary moments you may be facing as well as a few ideas to bring the silly back to your boo season.

Are the Sunday Scaries keeping you up? You probably already know that things like exercise, rest, and getting and staying organized can help, but you may also want to consider spending some time sorting out what you can control and what you have to release. Understanding your Circle of Control vs. your Circle of Influence can be a great first step, (I wrote a short piece on the topic for a blog- you can read it here)

Having a plan can help when things get unpredictable. Our Teachers Guide to Standard Operating Procedures will help you help your students plan ahead for sticky situations, creating plans and processes that they can use over and over again.

The best thing about October, though, is the fun to be had when we hit that “just right” spot on the spooky-o-meter. Whether it’s a not-too-scary movie, a book for you or  for your kids, a silly riddle, or something tasty to share, see if you can find something to bring a bit of October fun to you and your students.

Personally, I’ll be baking pumpkin bread and getting my costume organized. Can you guess who I am?

Here’s hoping you have the best October ever!
