One of the things I particularly appreciate about the Education Department AUNE is our approach to the brief, intensive summer term. We take a much-deserved hiatus from meetings (well, most of them) so we can fully engage with our students during their time with us. Some come to campus and some remain fully online and we relish the opportunity to focus on their learning during those brief weeks away from their classrooms.
Whether you’re a current student, an alum, or a future student, I hope that you’ll take some time at the start of this summer to decide what you want to get out of this time. Think forward to August and ask yourself this
When this summer is over, how will I know that I’ve used this time well? What do I want to have experienced, learned, or created?
For me, this summer is going to be about professional learning (presenting at ISTELive in Denver, teaching my Educational Philosophy class, and making a dent in my To Be Read pile are high on that list), spending time with my family, deepening my personal Yoga practice, and spending time in my garden. I want to laugh with the people I love, sit with smart people who make me think, and read with my coffee and my dogs in my garden.
So what about you? What’s on your summer list?
No matter how you decide to spend the coming days, I hope you find time to center yourself for once. You give so much to others- during the school year and beyond. It’s time to take care of you.
Best-
