The\u00a0rhythm\u00a0of\u00a0school teaches us to make\u00a0the\u00a0most\u00a0of\u00a0these long, hot days. It’s summer! Whoo hoo! If you’re a teacher, though, you’re probably scrambling to balance that whoo-hoo with a healthy dose\u00a0of\u00a0deferred maintenance (doctors, dentists, home repair, etc)\u2014 a\u00a0long list\u00a0of\u00a0have-tos and a long list\u00a0of\u00a0want-tos\u2014 and you may feel like you’re racing from one thing to\u00a0the\u00a0next.

One\u00a0of the\u00a0things I tell prospective students is that\u00a0we all have a limited number\u00a0of\u00a0days on\u00a0the\u00a0planet<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and that\u00a0we don’t want to be complicit in wasting any\u00a0of\u00a0yours. We don’t want you to feel like you’re jumping through hoops or gutting\u00a0your\u00a0way through grad school. We want\u00a0the\u00a0experience to be just\u00a0the\u00a0right mix\u00a0of\u00a0joy, inspiration, aspiration, and hard work\u2014 to make\u00a0the\u00a0most\u00a0of the\u00a0experience. Simply put, to take their\u00a0time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This month, I’m not going to share a bunch of resources. I want to encourage you to take<\/strong> your July. Balance your “need to” with your “want to,” intentionally, remember that the time you’re spending belongs to you. Take it, give it, spend it, waste it \u2014 not just this July, but every day. Make the most of it.

It’s your time. Take it.
