Asynchronous Services allow students to electronically submit and receive feedback on their written work without the requirement of a face-to-face tutoring appointment.
Asynchronous Services are a valuable support offering for students juggling coursework and busy schedules outside the classroom. Students submit work electronically, and trained Peer Writing Specialists respond electronically via Submittable, providing thorough feedback that addresses the student’s specific questions and areas of concern.
Asynchronous services are recommended for students who:
- prefer the convenience of getting feedback without scheduling an appointment
- are comfortable articulating their feedback/support needs in writing
- can interpret and implement feedback on their own
- have a bit of time before their required deadline
- need feedback on a limited number of pages in their project (>12)
Students can submit projects up to 3 times for review of thesis statements, structure, organization, source integration, and more. 3rd reviews of a project are typically reserved for near-final drafts to address more local concerns, such as:
- word choice
- grammar
- paragraph structure
- clarity
- conciseness
- syntax
Peer Writing Specialists can also provide support with APA or MLA citations and formatting, as well as other procedural edits.

Answer the questions in the submission form. All information provided helps our team prioritize your questions/needs in our feedback. Please also note:
- deadlines and time-sensitive questions
- where you are in the writing process
- 2-3 areas where feedback would be most helpful:
- Clarity of ideas
- Tips on organization
- Unifying your thesis
- Polishing your final draft
- Upload a maximum of 12 pages per submission (MS WORD only). Note:
- If uploading a longer document, clearly indicate which 12 pages you’d like us to review. If not, we will read only the first 12 pages.
- Feedback is given for up to 3 major areas per submission
- Feedback prioritizes your specific requests, but may also point out additional global or sentence-level issues to consider as you revise.
- Our team will usually get feedback to you within 48-72 hours of your submission, though it may be longer during peak submission times throughout the semester.
- Once your feedback is ready, you’ll receive an email prompting you to log in to Submittable to view or download it.
All feedback contains an Intro Letter, some In-text Comments, and some suggestions for Next Steps
- The Intro Letter summarizes your feedback and reviews major suggestions. [See the Introductory Letter example]
- In-text Comments, [bolded and bracketed], point out places to apply feedback in your document, as well as give you an idea of how a reader responded to your work. For greater accessibility and clarity, we do not use track changes or comment functions [See the example of In-Text Comments]
- The Next Steps section offers brief ideas on how to move forward with revisions.
- Submissions are reviewed in the order they are received
- Students may submit a project for review up to three times, with revisions incorporated before the next review
- When submitting a project for 2nd or 3rd review, please submit a clean document without visible track changes or previous reviewer comments
- Before resubmitting, please make substantive revisions based on the first round of feedback. If little appears to have changed, we may ask you to revisit the previous feedback before submitting again.
- Second and third drafts are often reviewed by different consultants due to staff availability. Multiple perspectives can help you develop your own writing style and make intentional decisions for your purpose and audience.
- Multiple Submissions:
You may submit up to two different projects per week for review. Each project may receive feedback on up to three drafts. If you submit more than two projects in a week, priority may be given to other students to maintain fair feedback practices. Additional submissions may receive delayed feedback, or, during high-volume periods, may not be reviewed. - Long Submissions Policy:
Consultants review up to 12 pages per submission. For longer projects, please follow the steps below:
- Identify 2-3 key areas where you want the most feedback
- Specify which page range or section consultants should focus on; otherwise, feedback will begin on page one.
- Apply feedback across the rest of the document before resubmitting.
- Do NOT split one long document into multiple submissions at the same time. We will only review the first one.
- Long submissions may take longer than 72 hours to receive feedback, especially during high-volume periods.
